A Matter of Timing

Posted by: magicalmysticalteacher on: July 16, 2009

“Things happen for a reason,” a good friend of mine says.

I roll my eyes and reply, “Sometimes it’s not a very damn good reason.”

You’re in the wrong place at the wrong time and—wham!—you get hit by a car driven by a 90-year-old who’s had a heart attack at the wheel.

Or you’re in the right place at the right time, you put a buck in the slot machine and—bingo!—you get a $500 payoff.

It’s all a matter of timing.

I have a feeling that my timing is off for getting the job at the school where I worked two years ago. Applications will be accepted until 5 p.m. on the 24th, but I’m expected to be back on the job at my present school on the 29th.

Things might work out for me to go back to my old school and they might not. I won’t be too upset if they don’t. I have job—and in this faltering economy, a low-paying job is better than no job at all.

Never a dull summer for you is there? LOL! Either way, you win, and that’s the prize at whichever end of the fork you end up on. ;)

See, you can too still make witty and funny comments, AprilMay! :-)

I’m glad to see you are following up on the betterpaing opportunity. $20,000 could go a long way to making a go at becoming debt fre again. That is HUGE in this economy. Plus it’s closer to home. Living separately is tough, but it is easier if the trip in between is not so onerous. We’ve been doing that for some time now and it’s beginning to become an issue. Besides, if they like yoiu once, they will like yoiu agian and maybe you can find a softer, longer resting place this time.

“a softer, longer resting place”

I like the sound of that phrase, Candy! Thanks for taking time to comment. We’ll see how it all turns out…

Again, good luck with the job! Fantastic that you followed through with the whole thing… Lots of times you can help your luck along too, what if you gave them a link to this site, all the tips and confidence here make you look like a stand-out candidate!

Thanks for your vote of confidence, Fer Camberos!

wow! this is all kind of an exciting development. this is much better than the years you weren’t sure you’d find a job at all, eh? :) but what a good place to be in–choosing between staying in a school that you feel is good for you, and returning to another school that was good for you. obviously you did the right thing by applying. i have a feeling that if you need to make the choice, it won’t be too difficult. :)

Oh, the choices!

i like this situation for you better :-)

Who knows if it will even materialize?

the choices factor-as opposed to the ‘holy crud what am i going to do’ scenario

Why, yes! There’s no holy-crud-what-am-I-going-to-do roiling around in my brain. What a relief!

Good luck to you, MMT! I only just realized myself a month or 2 ago that teaching…no matter how low-paying…is a fairly recession-proof job. Yay for us, huh?

Yay for ALL teachers everywhere!

Wow…so you are taking it ??? Can I have your old job? LOL

I can’t take it, because they haven’t even called me for an interview yet. You need it more than I do. Why don’t you apply?

Good luck.

Timing is everything, no matter what you do.

In times like this, I try to remember what Dame Julian of Norwich said: “All is well, and all will be well.”

Whichever way it goes, the situation will be good.

I’ve heard/read that quote before, Joyce Mocha. I’d forgotten where it came from or who said it. Thanks for reminding me.

I’m very fond of Julian’s writings. It’s a good read for a teacher.

I had a chance to move to a suburban school years ago, but I stayed where I was which kept me from being laid off, but it was less money….

Sometimes, I think, chasing after money can keep us from seeing clearly…
