Where you park your car
you may find shadows—bizarre
shapes carved out of light.

  1. what wonderous places
    where shadows may
    be found.
    one never knows.
    so our eyes and
    minds should
    always be open.

Robin, I never really paid much attention to shadows before I started shooting for Shadow Shot Sunday! You’re right–we never know where they’ll pop up or how they’ll affect us.

  2. I feel my words are not as clever as yours! :)
But I do love the second shot here – two patterns in one shot – great perspective!

  3. What pretty shadows. Really nice looking. Interesting how shadows make such lovely pictures.
    Happy SSS.

CTMott, my interest in shadows has increased dramatically, now that I’m participating in Shadow Shot Sunday. In years past, I tried to take pictures without shadows. Now I seek shadows all the time. Thanks for stopping by.

  4. Pretty slate grey colors in these photos. Reminds me of the Western part of the U.S.

    My shadow shots:

    • magicalmysticalteacher

That’s exactly where they were taken, Gallery Juana! The top one was shot at Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area outside of Las Vegas, Nevada. The bottom one in the parking lot at Las Vegas Springs Preserve, right in the heart of the city–a wonderful place!

  5. I just read your comment to Cmott. I am the same now with noticing shadows here and there. I enjoy being challenged to have a different perspective of what I see.

  6. They are bizarre shadows! I really love the fence one in the first photo.

    • magicalmysticalteacher

Bobbie, I’m glad you agree with me on the bizarreness of the shadows. You never know when something weird and supernatural looking is going to pop up!

  7. I agree with you and Bobbie, sometimes I find some strange and bizarre shadows, but the beautiful part is that because of Shadow Shot, I’m seeing things that I never saw or paid any attention to before and I love it! Love your fence posts!

    • magicalmysticalteacher

Pity the people who don’t pay attention—to much of anything—as they drift through this life, Sylvia!

  8. Thank you so much for the beautiful haiku for my spruce tree shadow. I added it to my post. I also love your shadow shots as they are more clever than my shot. Just to let you know my husband and I are both retired special education teachers who taught in a city school system…Michelle

    • magicalmysticalteacher

I’m delighted to see my little “offering” posted right under your photo. Thank you!

I’m not sure that my shots are “clever,” but looking for shadows has taught me to look for them in odd places and at strange angles!

  9. Great shots- I do particularly like the simplicity of the fencing in the first one. It reminds me of the Wild West.

  10. magicalmysticalteacher

It is the Wild West, Jacqui—just outside Las Vegas! :-)

  11. “shapes carved out of light” – one of the best definitions of shadow i’ve heard :)

and i loved your first photo! Have a great week

  12. A crooked ladder
climbs to the blue sky of day
    to view the beyond.

Thank you for the haiku…the gift is now returned…I agree, I never saw as much before as I do now with the gift of this lil’ meme SSS…and how many friends from across the globe have we met and shared a word and a thought.

Have a wonderful weekend…enjoy them shadows!

    sharon

  13. I wish I could reciprocate with the haikus!
But, these are lovely patterns and shapes. Looks like early morning to me.

    • magicalmysticalteacher

Actually both shots were taken rather late in the day! (But it’s hard to tell between morning and evening shots, isn’t it?)

  14. Bizarre, but beautiful, nontheless! Superior Snaps plus hot haiku makes for much more than a Silly Sunday. And speaking of which, you should drop by tomorrow, huh?

    • magicalmysticalteacher

Of course, I’ll drop by, Melissa B.! However, my befuddled brain probably won’t be nearly as witty as the grey matter of your other participants!

  15. Such interesting shadows you found in car parks! And an awesome haiku you shared with us!

  16. Beautiful geometric shadows!

    Shadows lean and block
    Like dark quadrilaterals
    Alternate fences

  17. Criss-crossing fence posts
    Rectangles receding
    On silvery ground

    • magicalmysticalteacher

      “rectangles receding”

Always the shadows are receding, aren’t they, Sarah? It’s up to us to capture them in word and photo before they vanish forever…

  18. Very cool! Love how the parking lot shadows can look (1) rustic AND (2) high tech!! Great shots :D

  19. magicalmysticalteacher

I’m glad you noticed the “high tech” shadows in the second shot, Girlichef. Those are actually shadows from solar panels atop a parking structure at Las Vegas Springs Preserve. If I had a prize to give, you’d win!

  20. Nice Haiku, and great shadows.
Thanks for stopping by at mine, and for the great comment!

  21. Love the patterns your Shadow Shots captured!

  22. Love the split-rail fence. Nice capture.

the parking lot is certainly different.

Thanks for stopping by. We love the company. Come back soon.

  23. Lovely shadow greyish shadow shots.

And thank you for your haiku to my river shadow post – I love it!

    • magicalmysticalteacher

      “greyish shadow”

Right you are, Dorte—not all shadows are sharply defined. Some are more subtle…

  24. What lovely pictures. Now that I’ve moved somewhere with so much more plant life, I’ve really become fascinated by the different quality of light. Of course, with more rain, there are certainly less dramatic shadows, but the smooth edges of shadows from the leaves of the trees are certainly soothing.

  25. The shadows cast by the fence in the top photo are lovely. Isn’t it amazing the way looking for shadows opens our eyes to beauty in unexpected places?

  26. shadows everywhere
now that I take time to look …
    yours are intriguing ;–)

    Hugs and blessings,

  27. Wonderful shadows! Amazing what light can do to the most mundane of objects, isn’t it?

  28. You found the terrific shadows too! Seems your sun really shines this day as I can see from your shadows.

Perfect to share to all the shadow chasers §:-))

    Have a nice SSS.

  29. Thank you so much for the visit and for sharing such great shots!

    • magicalmysticalteacher

Oh, I don’t know that they’re “great shots,” Marcela & Clara, but at least I had fun putting them together! Thank you for stopping by!

  30. Lovely shots!

  31. Wow! It’s amazing how shadows can make a parking lot look so interesting!
    Karla & Karrie

  32. Wow…quite the trafrfic jam here!!! Love the pictures and the haiku (yours and the readers).

    Have a blessed week…

fluttering by to say hi! :)

  33. I love fence photos and the addition of the shadows is wonderful!
    Have a great week~

    • magicalmysticalteacher

The poet Robert Frost once wrote: “Good fences make good neighbors.” Is that, perhaps, why you like fences too? Thanks for stopping by, Katie.

  34. I’ve been reading the comments. I didn’t play this week but I too find myself noticing shadows more because of this meme.
I’ve never seen a fence made like that. Curiously done.
    As always – perfect haiku!

    • magicalmysticalteacher

The world is fill with things “curiously done,” for those who are alert to their presence—eh, Carletta?

  35. Love your fence shadow and the quote ‘bizarre shapes carved out of light’

    • magicalmysticalteacher

Hello, TwinkleStarArt, and thank you for stopping by. It seems that every once in a while a delicious turn of phrase pops into my head. Such was “bizarre shapes carved out of light.” It may be a while before I’m able to come up with another set of words as delightful as that—but I keep writing!

  36. Wonderful shadows! You’re correct that this meme helps us all see what was always there.

  37. Hello there ~

Thanks for leaving a comment on my SSS blogpost yesterday :) Am new to this, so trying to get the hang of how this works… Am a little slow on the uptake here :)

Anyway, I take it you are familiar with the Denver area? (since you mentioned Colfax). You mentioned that your shadow shots are from Las Vegas area… I’m curious about the second shadow shot and what created those linked squares – quite intriguing…

    See you next week!

    • magicalmysticalteacher

Once upon a time I lived in Denver, graduated from high school there, so, yes, I’m a bit familiar with the area.

Second photo: the shadows of solar panels mounted atop a parking “garage.”

      Thanks for stopping by!
