Six Bedtime Tales

original

Her own bedtime tales
will be told by candlelight
or told not at all.

~~~ ~~~ ~~~
infinite wisdom
in recounting bedtime tales—
patience with darkness
~~~ ~~~ ~~~

kneeling in the dark
listening to bedtime tales—
somewhere church bells toll

~~~ ~~~ ~~~
I cannot listen
to the ragged bedtime tales—
old grey fox knows why.
~~~ ~~~ ~~~

At the bus station
they heard seven bedtime tales,
then left for Dallas.

~~~ ~~~ ~~~
Walk out the front door—
there are no more bedtime tales
to be told tonight.
  1. I like how “bedtime tales” pop up as the unifying motif, in all your retellings. Looks like we’re the early birds and everyone’s asleep.
  2. I’m curious about the “old grey fox” and what it knows :-D Nice tales.
    Best, M.
  3. There are foxes in my tale too! Enjoyed all of these, but this one really reminds me of what the adventurer needs to know in a fairy tale:
    infinite wisdom
    in recounting bedtime tales—
    patience with darkness
  4. I cannot listen
    to the ragged bedtime tales—
    old grey fox knows why.
    Love this!
  5. the bus station one. definitely
  6. love this:
    I cannot listen
    to the ragged bedtime tales—
    old grey fox knows why.
  7. I agree deeply with your first. Excellent haiku
