huddle at foot of a cross—
wayside descanso.

  1. thanks for sharing this today.

  2. The cross is poignant, a memorial to a person. The desert floor id blank, but the blue sky sits above, a beautiful day for most, but perhaps still grief for those who knew this person. The roadrunner on top of the cross is a testament to the life in the desert…

  3. Lots of descansos here in NM, that’s for sure! I have a collection’ of them in my image files yet to be released! Beautiful.

  4. Love the descansos and lovely words as always! Have a great weekend!

  5. Nice shot.
See too many of these along the roads ways.

  6. Interesting post. I had to look up the word descanso. I learned something today, MMT! Thank you as always.

We have a lot of them around here in Connecticut as well. I’ve taken photos of two different ones for my job in the past year.

    Seeing a descanso,
    and taking a photo,
    is something about which
    I’d rather not know.

  7. P.S. Sorry, my shadow is not a shopper pushing a cart. Interesting guess, though!

  8. Like Patti V. I didn’t know descansos – thanks for sharing!
    One hour in my mind…

    Happy SSS from Casa, Morocco!

  10. My heart stopped a bit seeing the cross of the day. May he/she rest in peace & join with our Creator.

So calm although the sun shine so strong. One of a kind shot!

    Happy SS & wishing you a wonderful Mother’s Day…

  11. Interesting shadow! 🙂

  12. I just returned home from a whirlwind trip. Yes, I was in New Mexico and spotted several of these. Since I was on I-40, I wanted badly to stop at Twin Arrows and have my picture taken to send to you as you’ve had many great shots from there in the past few months.
    Great Shadow Shot today.

    Peace.

  13. A very sensitive image, quietly reminding us all to be careful on roads! Beautiful and sad!

  14. Roadside markers are common here too, sad to say (meaning I wish there were less accidents to mark). However, the marker makes great shadows!

  15. Wonderful shadow! Interesting marker.

  16. I learned something new today just by looking in on your shadow shot. I had no idea there were such a thing as descansos.
    Great shot!
Thank you for the poem/rhyme in my blog 🙂

  17. Lovely shadows and colours!

  18. Beautiful…gorgeous shadow..looks so beautiful there!
And thank for your enchanting words of prose! Magical!

  19. Lovely and poignant memorial. There is a growing custom in this country of commemorating people who have died in road accidents with flowers, cards, photos – and they are left year after year.
