Listening to the Muse

Photobucket

Ignore the mirror in the corridor;
your fingertips tracing the outline of your face
will tell you more than any silvered glass.
If you yearn for an omen,
look to the sheep in the fold
or the loose thread in the hem of your skirt—
either can strengthen your resolve
to gouge out the opal of envy lodged in your heart
and embrace the raw, enduring verve
that comes from pursuing the lover’s art.
Listen to your muse!
Thrust deceit away and do your part!

  1. “Verve” – you just don’t hear that enough these days!

I fixed next week’s theme – thanks for pointing it out, and giving me the word to use 😉

  2. “The opal of envy” – what a fitting metaphor. Envy is brittle like opal, and its shards can lodge in your heart and shred your soul. I like the whole poem, but that phrase really caught my attention.

  3. I like this poem. Kinda needed it today. Beautifully written.

  4. or shoot the damn Muse 😉

love the tone in the poem

  5. Now I know where to look for an omen!! Well written and loved it!! 🙂
