With malice toward none,
she opens her arms with joy
to embrace the world.

  1. That is a beautiful shrine. I must get to this church next time in Tucson. I’m sad that I’ve missed it in the past with as often as I go there or pass through. Maybe in late March or April this year if all goes well. Thanks for posting this photo. I like it a lot.

  2. I am in awe over this altar.
I have always wanted to create something like this in my home…
and I think I have enough to make a good start.
    So inspiring♥♥♥

  3. Very pretty sight to behold.

  4. this is one of my most favorite basilicas. let’s all plan to meet there together!
what a pilgrimage that will be!

this speaks to me in unimaginable ways.

that blue alone sends me to paradise, the white of mary in front, oh be still my heart!
    your haiku, a perfect honoring!

  5. Very beautiful ~ I love the old shrine around Arizona and New Mexico ~ awesome ~ and magical and mystical ^_^~ thanks, namaste, Carol (A Creative Harbor) Happy AVAD ^_^

  6. Beautiful and uplifting

  7. though this is Arizona, the colours and even something else take me back to Greece. Love the blue. resplendent!

  8. I would love to visit that chapel.Hopefully some day I’ll get to Arizona! Love your haiku!

  9. I am also in awe over this altar or should we call it an awetar. So beautiful with the large Mary behind Jesus on the cross supporting Him. Wow.

And yes that is me – a little Buddha, a little Diego and a lot Mary……

  10. A lovely shrine and surroundings!!

  11. The blue niche and all those saints surrounding Our Lady is real spiritual eye candy. Thanks.

  12. MMT,
Such a powerful altar with Mary as the central and largest figure and the cross much smaller and supported by her. I find that very moving. It forces a shift in perception that I think is significant. The Niche is lovely and all the statues are beautiful. It’s a fine altar.

  13. How could I have missed this altar. Haven’t been to the mission in years. This is beautiful!

  14. You have such an ability to say the most profound things so economically!

  15. I just KNOW there has to be an bench nearby waiting in invitation for the viewer to sit and rest a while.

  16. “with open arms” … wow what a wonderful haiku on “malice”, well done. It’s so … like you Magical Mystery Teacher 🙂

  17. …and they embrace her adoringly…

    Sue x

  18. If only there were more of that in this world! Lovely 🙂 I sent you an email just now – looking forward to getting your thoughts on a certain matter!
