Ragged Flute Player

Ragged flute player,
if I douse your doleful notes,
will you seek revenge?
~~ ~~ ~~
Ragged flute player,
as you pipe your naughty notes,
monks begin to dance.
~~ ~~ ~~
Ragged flute player,
did you summon the pale horse
and its pale rider?

  1. I love – Monks begin to dance – what an image. We all need to dance. Great feeling and it made me smile.

  2. Oh I really enjoyed reading this set! Beautifully scripted.

  3. The second stanza (naughty) seems a bit out of keeping with the other two (references to doleful and death, respectively); was that on purpose? The third stanza made me smile… it was intended to be a bit of a tongue in cheek right?

    • Actually, they are meant to be separate senryu, not a whole poem with separate stanzas. So, if you read them as discrete pieces, maybe that will help. “Naughty” was one of the prompt words, so I used it. Thanks for your visit.

  4. Oh, I really really liked that. Really.

  5. Nicely patterned your questions for the ‘Ragged flute player’! 🙂

  6. Happy to see you combine the two prompts. I like the notion of separate yet connected-by-pattern senryu. As always, your simple yet deep creations make me think and appreciate the ancient forms you employ.

  7. I love all the different things going on here. Separate but connected

  8. all three lovely but #2 i had a chuckle with what a pleasant way to start my day.

  9. like a pied piper..raggedy man..

  10. There can be a lot of feeling expressed in the playing of the flute. So easy then to visualize the scenarios you have created.

  11. I enjoyed these very much. And I smiled at the monks dancing! They definitely deserve some joy! (Smiles.)

  12. I always love your haiku but these three are special favorites. I LOVE the image of the monks dancing!

  13. I liked the idea of naughty notes and Monks dancing. ^_^

  14. LOL….Monks dancing..? Cutest part, I say!! Smiles…

  15. Snakypoet (Rosemary Nissen-Wade)

Just the phrase ‘raggedy flute player’ is so evocative!

  16. 🙂 Really enjoyed your monks dancing! 🙂
