Does Moses believe
he hears a holy rumbling
among the brambles?
~~ ~~ ~~
Penitent pilgrims
lashing themselves with brambles—
their backs bloom with blood.
~~ ~~ ~~
Is this your tribute
to the high and holy One—
these deadly brambles?
