Spring

~~ 1 ~~

early spring morning
an old man stumbles downstairs
shrouded in darkness

~~ 2 ~~

after all these years
still greeting spring with a nod
and a fresh cigar

~~ 3 ~~

familiar stories
autumn, winter, spring, summer
he knows what she means

~~ 4 ~~

In her other life
she finds that spring never comes—
blizzards every day.

More Carpe Diem: “Japanese Spring”

  1. In her other life
she finds that spring never comes— I identify deeply with these words. For me, not blizzards, but low dark clouds every day, back in the old “other” life.

  2. I hope she casts off the old other life. Many of us have times we wish never to revisit.

  3. Hope those are Dairy Queen Blizzards. Some dark thoughts of spring. My favorite season next to the colors of autumn.

  4. Each has a life of it’s own…I love #4…melancholy spring it seems to say to me.
    Peace
    Siggi

  5. I will always love your haikus. The first one really paints a visual picture for me.

  6. That last one was really strong… constant blizzards (maybe she lives in Sweden)
