third year on the road—
even the devout weary
of the wayside shrines
~~ ~~ ~~
names of sacred plums
ripen on indulgent tongues—
such wilding sweetness
~~ ~~ ~~
Kerouac’s hometown
west of here 400 miles—
smug pilgrims press on

  1. three years on the road will bring travel fatigue.

  2. three years on the road must make them long for home. I love all three of these.

  3. I always enjoy seeing what you come up with in your Limricks. I lose the last one 400 miles smug pilgrims!

  4. Loved your reference to Kerouac as well as your expression “such wilding sweetness’.

  5. Smug pilgrims press on rings true. It seems like sometimes that happens on the road we travel. It is something to guard against. Great job!

  6. The 3 years on the road can take its toll but religious resolve can counter negative feel. Nicely MMT!

  7. Sweet and rich..I can picture the warm, adventurous road
