Over the Coffin

original

Over the coffin
three wizened hags burn incense—
long dead is their queen.

~~ ~~ ~~

over the coffin
a pall the hue of sunset—
army widow keens

~~ ~~ ~~

over the coffin
no moral judgments uttered
by the grieving band

  3. I am glad you used the word “keens”. This description of wailing in inconsolable grief, usually by women, seems to be less used these days.

  4. Coffins are curious places aren’t they..you explore them well! 😉

  5. ‘Over the coffin’ a phrase that makes one to be all the while cautious. Nicely MMT!
