Grotesqueries
Each grotesquerie begins with a phrase purloined from One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel García Márquez, the Colombian novelist who died 17 April 2014.

dusty almond trees
all the fruit turns into glass
bitter little shards

hand-painted flowers
remnants of the midget’s dreams
tossed to the bridesmaids
~~ 3 ~~
box of dominoes—
two pieces rub each other
in just the wrong way
~~ 4 ~~
place of burial
the earth begins to settle
after three amens
~~ 5 ~~
a wicker basket
hides a broken battle axe
under cloth of gold
~~ 6 ~~
houses with zinc roofs
shattering expectations
rusting overnight
~~ 7 ~~
glass beads for macaws
flung into the April sky
snatched by hungry beaks
~~ 8 ~~
a bulging suitcase—
the clumsy woman drops it
on the railroad track
~~ 9 ~~
clocks made of carved wood
vanish just before midnight
tick again at dawn
~~ 10 ~~
invisible paths
some on land, some on sea
Moses knows the game
~~ 11 ~~
clothing left behind—
an old man without a name
tries on the trousers
~~ 12 ~~
sticks of balsa wood
listen as the cotton string
tightens on a kite

10 and 12 are my favorites, but all are divine.. Brava!
I must confess with my quirky humor I liked the box of dominoes, where they like humans being alike, cannot get on with each other
For me it was number 9 that did it most… But they’re all so beautiful!
Numbr 4 – may seem macabre but that one did it for me.
Made me think of gargoyles..lined up along the roof ready for us to choose which one looks the most grotesque..and which the most beautiful..the zinc roofs fascinated me as well
all of them are good though i’m with no 3 😀
very cool haikus… my fav is the domino one…two pieces rubbing each other
in just the wrong way… so tightly painted..
#8 and #12 caught my imagination….she leaves clothes behind, he puts on women’s panties….I like them all.
I like 4, 6, 10, and 11… Some very thoughtful writing here.
2, 3, 10, and 12 really do it for me and I especially like the way 12 ends on a hopeful, uplifting note!
The domino and the battle-axe.. really a lot of strength in those..
My option is #10. For it has historical reference of significance! Great write MMT!

Also #8, as I am the clumsy woman. Love the idea of beads and macaws for the color and movement. (but what happens next?)
