Cabin

Abandoned house, Yuma County, Arizona

In the cabin walls
something purrs by day and night—
a leftover dream.

~~ ~~ ~~

In the cabin walls
nasty little creatures hide,
scrabbling in the dark.

~~ ~~ ~~

cabin by the way—
kneeling before the threshold
a weary pilgrim

~~ ~~ ~~

in the cabin walls
a desiccated silence
wheezing tales of woe

  2. Such a powerful write 🙂

  3. Dessicated silence…nice phrase !

  4. so much untold stories in the womb of silence…

  5. I love the purring of a leftover dream…i suppose awakeness isn’t quite as gentle…that cabin still feels like a place to retreat to however…much lies in broken walls

  6. Laura Bloomsbury

quite a contrast between the creatures and the leftover dream – impressive imagination to come up with something so different for each haiku

  7. I am sure those silent cabin walls could tell interesting tales if only they would speak!

  8. Ah, a “fixer-upper”, LOL. I love the purring leftover dream. Poignant.

  9. That second one made me shiver!

  10. These are all really good. I like the left over dreams purring.

  11. Oooh…the thought of a leftover dream purring in the cabin walls….that is just divine!

  12. The mysteries within confines of abandoned houses can be intriguing. Very true MMT!

  13. A silent place that perhaps needed more sound.

  14. I like it when a poet selects an object and guides the readers thoughts about it. You did this beautifully. I could feel the silence in the cabin.
