Songs of Shattered Stars

~~ 1 ~~

deep in the meadow
fleeces drenched with dew at dawn
seven drowsy sheep

~~ 2 ~~

waxing the front hall
until the oaken boards shine
reflecting her face

~~ 3 ~~

in a country church
seven old evangelists
shouting out good news

~~ 4 ~~

six-year-old gymnast
twisting her lissome body
into pretzel shapes

~~ 5 ~~

touching the house wren
just before it lifts its wings
to flee my finger

~~ 6 ~~

bewildered pigeon
searching the clean-swept plaza
for even one crumb

~~ 7 ~~

worsted wool sweaters
for sale at bargain prices
the first day of spring

~~ 8 ~~

three cunning women
one an angel in disguise
sifting through rubbish

~~ 9 ~~

beyond the orchard
the place where young boys wrestle
each day after school

~~ 10 ~~

coming to bless me
with songs made of shattered stars—
old shaman at dawn

Your haiku sets encompass interesting stories in them … always a joy reading them

  2. Nice that there are as many as seven evangelists in the country church. Smiles.
And good to buy those wool sweaters even in spring, as winter comes once again fast enough!
    A fine set!

  3. What glorious verses each brought me a vision of joy especially the last one!

  4. For me, you saved the best for last!

  5. The title is a story – and each vignette a scene under your skies as only you can paint – i knew you’d nail ‘gymnast’ as a word as well! 🙂

  6. I smiled at those worsted shirts at sale… but songs of shattered stars is exactly how dawn can feel-

  7. Such a gorgeous set of haiku ❤

  8. So many brilliant scenarios and images…..I especially love the last one, with the shaman and his songs made of shattered stars. Really wonderful writing!

  9. I really liked them all, but the last one caught me unaware and I sighed with contentment. Thank you,

    There’s a nice light-heartedness about these. I l love the evangelists!

  11. The last one is the best one among all for me…

That seems to be the general consensus, and I agree!

  12. all of these are wonderful. My favorites are the one about the angel in disguise, and the Shaman. What beautiful thoughts you produce.

  13. I enjoyed each of these and the motif of early morning, too, broken only by the schoolboys.

  14. Brilliant….absolutely stunning images, MMT!!

  15. These vignettes are enchanting…Loved the angel in disguise and the haiku of shattered stars is exquisite.

Thank you. I think there are probably more of those angels in disguise among us than we realise!
