Dry grasses, Northern Arizona

~~ 1 ~~
Abundant whimsy
fills the Delhi beggar’s face,
emptying her bowl.
~~ 2 ~~
at his steely core
nothing but admiration
for the brutal ones
~~ 3 ~~
a badass dolphin
out to impress the ladies—
they all swim away
~~ 4 ~~
a murderous whale—
the one that took down Ahab
still roaming the seas
~~ 5 ~~
the prairie’s expanse
constricted by last night’s rain
into a puddle
~~ 6 ~~
only a concept—
the sound of a tree crashing
when no one’s around
~~ 7 ~~
learning how to spell
by scrawling lines with a stick—
children of the dunes
~~ 8 ~~
singing of small things
things that can’t even be seen
without microscopes
~~ 9 ~~
offering herself
to the wind and rain and sun—
maid for all seasons

  2. An interesting set of stories in your haiku MMT happy Sunday

    much love…

  3. Loved the one about the ‘badass dolphin’ and glad those ladies were NOT impressed.
Yes, one wonders if there are sounds that one cannot possibly hear made by things which we cannot possibly see – mind boggling.

  4. Whimsies are the making of us – and the world perhaps.. gathered together they really are quite magical

  5. I especially love “maid for all seasons.” And I love the Delhi beggar’s whimsy – gotta love a beggar with attitude. Smiles.

  6. The prairie caught in a puddle and the sound of a tree when no one is around… yes those are great views…

  7. only a concept—
the sound of a tree crashing
when no one’s around……………my favourite, all enjoyable though.

  8. These are beautiful when you picture yourself at the scene and see them in your mind’s eye.

  9. Rosemary Nissen-Wade
