Glimpses

Strawberry cactus, (Mammillaria dioica), Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, Southern California, February 2017

~~ 1 ~~

naked figurines
their alabaster bellies
shining in the light

~~ 2 ~~

somewhere in the ’hood—
poems kicked to the gutter
begging for mercy

~~ 3 ~~

at the hoarder’s house—
lockets stuffed with old photos
too many to count

~~ 4 ~~

a bloated old man
bathed by his daughter at noon
then tucked into bed

~~ 5 ~~

ambling down the street
with a basket on her arm—
market day again

~~ 6 ~~

The way the moon leans
into the battered dumpster,
you’d think it was drunk.

  1. Rosemary Nissen-Wade

So wonderfully vivid! (And oh, those poor poems.)

  2. 2 and 6 are especially wonderful.

  3. The image of the moon is so poignant! Well written. .. you made me pause and think

Sometimes little gems just form themselves (or so it seems). This is one of those times. I like the moon haiku too!

  4. I loved them all but the girl/woman ambling down the street to the market is a real delight.

  5. As gorgeously written as ever….!❤️

  6. such helplessness in no.4, scary isn’t it? not everyone has someone even to do that bit : then tucked into bed…sigh…

  7. Perhaps, those poems will arise stronger for being kicked in the gutter. A voice quivers in the night so sad…

  8. Enjoyed the picture of poetry in the second one. I hope that even though poems are kicked to the gutter they will never, never, never give up.

  9. Oh how I Luv that moon haiku

    Happy Sunday

    Much love…

  10. Ah! Such glimpses are so delectable. I loved the moon leaning into the dumpster.

  11. Each of these is a wonderful little nugget….a progression of well-drawn words. Bravo!

  12. I love when you bring poetry to the darkest edge of town…

    Scribbled poetry
    on a pawn-shop receipt –
    gold watch left unclaimed

  13. Oh that final one is especially wonderful.

As I said to someone else earlier, I don’t usually pick favorites from my own lineup, but in this case, the moon haiku shines! 🙂

  14. I’m joining with everybody else who loved your image of a drunk moon. I can see my moon from my chair right now. I do believe it’s a little tipsy!

    My Whirligig!

  15. All of these are fabulous. You have excelled yourself Well done !

  17. No.#3 seems all the vogue that impacts on the sentimentalists. Practicality thrown to the winds!

  18. I like the last one although all were enjoyable!
