Indian paintbrush on a hillside near Willow Lake, Prescott, Arizona

The radio won’t tell you
About the hillside blooms,
And newspapers won’t mention
The secret, hidden rooms,
Where lemurs keep their treasure
In boxes made of silk,
And pandas take their leisure
In bathtubs filled with milk.

  1. This one made me think of poems by Leonard Cohen. Seems light at first look, but you have to dig a little deeper to appreciate it. And then, of course, each person will come up with their own interpretation. Amazing one!!!

I’m honored that you think I’m fit to be in the company of Leonard Cohen! 🙂

      • When you write things like this one, in particular, you really are that good. So many of your poems hit home or have deep meaningfulness. That is what great poets and writers are supposed to do….stir up your feelings and memories and take you on a journey. You certainly do that every day.

  2. Love the desert flowers ~ great colors and photo ~ thanks,

    Enjoy the week ~ ^_^

  3. They won’t tell you about flowers but they will tell you about mushroom hunting time. I can just see a panda in a bath of milk. Swoon….

  4. Then I thank the poets even more for the whimsey that captures the truth of how things are!

  5. it.. that’s why we read poetry.

  6. This is soo gorgeously fierce!! ❤️

  7. Such truth skillfully woven into your poetry. Enjoyed the videos too!

Unfortunately, I have no control over the videos. I wish they would just go away!

  8. Oh my goodness, how I LOVE this….what a wonderful flight of fancy, from a depressing topic, to the hidden wonders we dont hear enough about.

  9. MMT, can you tell me, where Venus, Star, and Squeak hide my pens? Am sure they’re working with your Pandas, to corner the market on black ink pens. Sigh. Thanks, for the smile, that your poem brought to me.

  10. Pandas are cute but how many millions are being expended for a failed species that can only survive if cosseted by humans? Yet we happily kill elephants and lions and other successful species for mankind’s cruel pleasure. I have just realized I have landed on an alien world. It is so beautiful as you show us but there are some very cruel and ugly creatures here.

  11. oh…a triple wow for this… refreshingly beautiful!

What lovely images you paint here! “…pandas take their leisure In bathtubs filled with milk.”

  13. Lovely imagery in this. That’s why we need poets!

  14. Rosemary Nissen-Wade

Oh, how I wish they did! But luckily we have you to tell us. 🙂
