Quest

IMG_5268
A makeshift water jug, abandoned by someone who crossed the U.S. border illegally in the Sonoran Desert, Southern Arizona

They flee their homeland in the night,
Leaving kith and kin behind;
They look for somewhere to alight,
A place that offers peace of mind.

A haven from all storms they seek,
Where peace and love and joy are found;
A place where all the poor and weak
Rejoice and stand on holy ground.

From north and south, from east and west
The dreamers come, their eyes alight,
Loath to interrupt their quest
Of finding refuge from the night.

  1. America is where all our immigrant ancestors used to find “refuge from the night” and “a place that offers peace of mind?; but, alas, this is no longer so.

  2. Really beautiful work.

  3. Very difficult to find that refuge from the night these days. Sigh.

  4. This is the most sad picture. I see a lot of suffering in this bottle.

  5. Loath to interrupt their quest
    Of finding refuge from the night.

    Difficult to stifle them from their quest to be in the land of their dreams

    Hank

  6. Picture says it all, eh?
