What Makes Me Happy

What makes me happy?
I know what does not:
A cold in my head;
My nose full of snot.
My happiness flees
When hot weather comes;
The heat makes my head
Keep throbbing like drums.
And why should I smile
In spite of the rain?
I hate being drenched!
I find it a pain!
Another thing too
Makes happiness flee:
When pruning roses,
I’m stung by a bee.
I could be happy,
I guess, I suppose.
How long would it take?
Ah, nobody knows!

  1. Happiness so illusive, and yet in memory it was here. I loved your write.

  2. ‘I could be happy’…Ah that’s the space I’m sometimes in 🙂

  3. Ha, this made me smile. Loved it.

  4. Lisa at Greenbow

Happiness is… a call from my kids
a new hat that the kids call a lid
a robin with nestlings out my back door
another robin family so there are many more.
    air conditioning cooling the head
and being retired when I don’t want to get out of bed
    I wish I could write
as you do in the night
    This would make sense
    I wouldn’t feel so tense.

  5. Beverly Crawford

A humorous (perhaps somewhat cynical) look at happiness. Acerbic and so well written!

  6. Glad to see you have turned happiness over and made us laugh.

  7. kaykuala

A little irritation will come and go but happiness stays when it comes. Love the humor MMT!

  8. I loved this, it reminds me of something Dr. Suess, (one of my favorite poets) would write! I enjoyed this very much. Great timing and metering! Awesome!

  9. Oh the perils of spring and gardening.
