Sunlight

The sunlight
now flooding the valley
after three weeks
of steady rain with no slits in the
clouds, no patches of light,
must be a sign.

With one hand
I grab my guitar,
with the other
I begin scribbling a tale
about the distant waterfall.
fed by the recent rains,
that keeps thundering into an abyss.

I could have drifted
into darkness,
been swallowed by deep waters,
if sunlight had not
come to the valley again.

This is my tale,
this is my song.
Sing with me.

  1. I feel that abyss of gray when it rains for too long or snows here for too long….the challenge to stay out of the darkness is a wonderful song that I happily sing with you!

  2. Saved by the sun… true about weather, true about depression… love your song

  3. So beautiful to read. I especially love your closing lines.

  4. Beautiful!! Long rains are few in the desert.

  5. Almost as though you sung the sun back.

  6. It’s lovely to be inspired by the sun. It’s as if its unlocked the words for you to write your tale. I like it !

  7. This is beautiful! 💜 Especially love your closing lines.

  8. It’s a song worth singing, for sure!

  9. I was with you all the way : )

    “I could have drifted
    into darkness,
    been swallowed by deep waters,
    if sunlight had not
    come to the valley again.”

There is your [chorus] Key of G ( I keep it simple : )
    ZQ

  10. Intriguing song. Nature does her do in her own time on her own terms. Happy are we who sing

Thanks for dropping by my Sunday Standard today MMT

    Much♥️love

  11. I love the mood in this poem, and (yes) I will sing along….gladly!

  12. The weather does set the mood for some lyrical poetry. Strum on!

  13. Wonderful closing lines.

  14. A poet is never at a loss for a subject and is uncaring about the weather as only one thing is on their mind…”am I using the right word here?”

  15. hypercryptical

I am glad the sun finally made its appearance. I can understand your singing. I shall sing too!
    Anna :o]

  16. Something to sing about, indeed!

  17. I shall gladly sing along.
