Fingers framed by light,
clutching an old rosary
carved of human bone,
she mutters imprecations
in lizardspeak and owltongue.

  1. And so you deepen the mystery, and increase the eeriness. Beautifully done!

  2. Whoda thunkit…excellence upon excellence. I bow.

  3. How wonderful you chose to add lines to create a truly wonderful tanka. I love reading and writing them.

  4. Margaret Elizabeth Bednar

… mysterious and thank you for the inspiration for the prompt today. Google “Bone Church, Czech Republic”

  5. I can practically hear the hoots and hisses! Also, what Rosemary said.

  6. Ooo… I love where you took the rosary!

  7. Filthy tongued lady, I’m glad I don’t speak lizardspeak or owltongue, if I did my feelings might be hurt.

    Thank you, MMT.

  8. Well if you frequent the wild it is always good to be able to confer with one or two of the creatures there. The owls for wise advice and the lizards for discussing escape plans.

  9. Kestril Trueseeker

Mmm… I love the imagery and sounds of this piece
