Five Haiku with Tea

Rainy afternoon—
a broken silk umbrella
lies in the gutter.
How placid the cat
curled seemingly forever
in the old man’s lap!
How satisfying
to drink clear, cool spring water
from a clean white cup!
In darkness the hills
hold lurid conversations
with the river stones.
Autumn advances—
the maple’s leaves turn crimson
without fuss or noise.

  1. Beverly Crawford

These are each special. I kept returning to the broken umbrella for some reason … perhaps because it’s silk.

  2. Fine works Teach. Things have (finally!) greened here. PLEASE don’t foist me those colorful maples anytime soon, OK?

  3. Each of these is wonderful … difficult to choose my favorite … however, I love the hills and river stones most!

  4. All lovely. I can just feel the rain and see that umbrella. Oh, a napping cat. They NEVER want to get up!

  5. Lovely series. Luv the colour and silence in 5
    Happy Sunday

  6. Great Haiku I feel the comfort of the culed up cat and the freshness of the clear water
Rain here as well So much that we are in a state of emergency as all the rivers have overflown

  7. How well you write these haiku where the reader can visualiise the scenes as though they were there themselves.

  8. This is a BEAUTIFUL collection of haiku!

  9. lovely collection!
#2 reminds me of a picture i saw yesterday, of a cat curled up and napping in the stone hands of a statue. 🙂

  10. I love every one of these haiku, but like Beverly – I keep on coming back to the silk umbrella. It’s such a strong image!

  11. such sips of tea… will sustain me for a long time…

  14. I am most fond of number 4. It took me to the hills and I saw, felt, heard the coolness of the creek flowing over the rocks, and watched the hills listening. A beautiful place to be.

  15. sipping tea with you
sweet peace from each tiny cup
    my heart is renewed
