Buoyed by Grace

Tortured tree
Sonoran Desert, Southern Arizona

Imagine a tree
tortured, twisted and tattered
but buoyed by grace.

Deadly Red

Deadly red
Sonoran Desert, Southern Arizona

parched and barren sands
as far as my eyes can see—
deadly smudge of red

Who

In and out shadows

Sonoran Desert, Southern Arizona

Who has seen the wind
snaking through the lizards’ home?
Who can track its scent?

Seven Crossroads

Photobucket

Start your odyssey!
Quit standing at the crossroads,
looking small and lost.

~~ ~~ ~~

She could not predict
how standing at the crossroads
would contort her life.

~~ ~~ ~~

Why aren’t you singing
while standing at the crossroads?
Did you tie your tongue?

~~ ~~ ~~

To give thanks to God
while standing at the crossroads
is a sign of faith.

~~ ~~ ~~

She sang her heart out
while standing at the crossroads,
and then she moved on.

~~ ~~ ~~

Letting her flute sing
while standing at the crossroads—
mournful little tunes.

~~ ~~ ~~

We can make a life
of standing at the crossroads,
but it won’t go far.

Blue Banderas

Blue banderas

Banderas festoon a street, San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato, México

Anybody there
would know the blue banderas
fluttered tales of grace.

With My Eyes Obscured

Art, Fabrica la Aurora

With my eyes obscured,
how can I see clearly now?
Blackbird calls my name.

Savaged Places

Vacant lot

Lush, fragrant gardens
spring up from savaged places
only in our dreams.
