Market

Savory suppertime dreams—
onions, cabbage, bananas,
ginger, sweet yams and garlic
steamed to perfection.

Sweepers

Tomorrow, another day,
After all the drunks have gone,
Faithful sweepers will return
To cleanse cobblestones.

Breath

Gliding over cloister stones
phantom monks in cloth of grey
string small prayers together
breath by breath by breath.

Shelter

Forget about the puna,*
windswept, frigid, desolate—
throw off your cloak, and shelter
in the House of Lights.
*puna: a high, cold, arid plateau
