I Peered Into the Window

I peered into the window,
And there what did I see?
Dreamy shapes made manifest,
Staring back at me!
And there what did I see?
Dreamy shapes made manifest,
Staring back at me!
I could not understand it,
I thought I’d lost my mind,
The shapes were there before me—
Before me, not behind!
I glanced away so quickly,
I nearly snapped my neck;
I stilled my heart a moment—
And then I ran like heck!

Shackles of Hunger
Shackles of hunger are holding you fast;
If you don’t eat soon, you simply won’t last;
But there on the corner, right in plain view,
Lies your salvation: hot pollo for you!

Rainbow Street
While walking down whimsical Rainbow Street,
A menacing shadow I chanced to meet.
“Hello, there, shadow,” I said with great charm,
“I certainly hope you’ll do me no harm.
As you can see I have nothing to do
But walk down the street, enjoying the view.
I hope you’ll be kind and gentle to me,
And let me go down the street clear and free.”
The shadow whimpered and slithered away
And left me alone to go on my way,
Greeting whomever I happened to meet,
While strolling down whimsical Rainbow Street.

On the Beach
Some seek water, some seek shade,
Some seek sand and sun;
On the beach the only aim
Is to have some fun!

Shadows Dancing
Shadows dancing on the wall,
Aren’t you fearful of a fall?
Since you do not dread bad ends,
Dance away your lives, my friends!

Playground Puddle
Cutting through the Waters
CUTTING THROUGH THE WATERS
Cutting through the waters,
Buffeted by breeze,
Nothing beats the freedom
Of the open seas.
Longing eyes look forward
To some distant shore,
Lusting for adventures
As in days of yore.
Nearer still and nearer
Ship approaches land,
Soon we will be welcomed
By the sun-drenched sand.
Cutting through the waters
Seeking distant leas,
Nothing beats the freedom
Of the open seas.

Shadow Shot Sunday: Shattered
Splintered window, shattered glass,
All the motorists who pass
Wonder at the malcontent,
Wonder why his life was spent
Shooting bullets through old glass—
Someone ought to kick his ass.

Ruby Tuesday: Shy Guy
Boy in ruby, why so shy?
You are quite a handsome guy.
There’s no need to hide your face—
In this world you have a place.
Take your ruby shirt away
From your mouth—come out and say,
“I am not a turtle, no,
And my name’s not Yertle, so,
I will be as I was meant—
As my mom says, heaven-sent.”

Mellow Yellow Monday: Parade Time
Line up, line up, children dear!
Beat of big bass drum I hear!
Soon the candy clowns will come,
Dancing to the big bass drum.
Make your long lines nice and straight—
Hurry, hurry, we can’t wait!
We must march to line the street
While the drummers beat, beat, beat
And all but the saddest clown
Rain the sweetest candy down
On our heads and at our feet
While the drummers beat, beat, beat.
