Zebra

When the zebra sings,
the Southern Cross rejoices
star by twinkling star.

A Little Whirl with Ted Kooser

106 photo 106_zpsc5f70dcb.jpg

The first line of each haiku comes from various poems in Delights and Shadows by Ted Kooser.

~~ 1 ~~
Sometimes they hear us,
grubs in the garden, and try
to make out our words.

~~ 2 ~~

The swaying nettles
do not have to guess their place
in the universe.

~~ 3 ~~

Bloom at the roadside,
when the old beggar saw you,
she trembled for joy.

~~ 4 ~~

The redwing blackbirds
swear an oath to the north wind:
We will outlast you.

~~ 5 ~~

From behind the trees
arise thin incantations,
sung by things unknown.

~~ 6 ~~

Nothing but flowers,
and nothing rare, but common,
can tame my wild heart.

ancient ironwood still blooms—
