Little cactus wren,
the ocotillo blossoms
blush to hear you sing.

Noisy cactus wren,
won’t you hush up long enough
to see the blossoms?

No One

Some of the first blossoms of 2017: sand verbena in Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, Southern California

No one’s looking back with longing
For the chilly winter day,
When no flowers graced the hillsides,
And the sky was only grey.

No one thinks with fond remembrance
Of the barren hills and slopes
Now that spring has come with blossoms
To renew our dreams and hopes.

A small bougainvillea brightens the new year in Yuma County, Arizona.

In the year ahead,
as long as there are blossoms,
we shall be all right.

Lovers of small words and small poems usually gather each Friday with Rebecca at Recuerda Mi Corazon to share their haiku. However, because Rebecca’s computer is down, we will gather here today. Welcome!

Six for Sunday

~~ 1 ~~

words to nourish me
on this November morning—
a poem by Keats

~~ 2 ~~

Sing, little sparrow!
How could I despise your voice
this frosty morning?

~~ 3 ~~

This frosty morning
I am dumb before the wren
and its trills of grief.

~~ 4 ~~

Without any means
to support itself, the wren
enriches my life.

~~ 5 ~~

noise at the corner—
a thousand hungry blackbirds
clamoring for crumbs

~~ 6 ~~

joyful not plaintive—
the voice of the old woman
at her husband’s grave
