Fading
Fading bougainvillea blossoms on a trash heap, Wellton, Arizona
What is there to celebrate
When the brilliant blossoms fade?
Who rejoices at such loss?
Are not tender souls dismayed?
And yet in fading flowers
We see clearly what we are:
Blooms that shrivel at day’s end,
Leaving nothing near or far.

Confidence
A small bougainvillea brightens the new year in Yuma County, Arizona.
In the year ahead,
as long as there are blossoms,
we shall be all right.

Bright
Bougainvillea in bloom, Yuma Pioneer Cemetery, Yuma, Arizona
Bright are the blossoms
Near the old tomb;
Brightly they greet me,
Banishing gloom.

Bougainvillea petals litter a sidewalk, San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato, México
all the red blossoms
I love them too much to think
they will fall by noon
