Lonely Place

A blush spreads across the sky at day’s end in Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, Southern California.
In this lonely place,
where will you rest for the night,
weary little dove?

Ruby Tuesday Too: Cactus Blossom

Beavertail cactus blossom during the super bloom of 2017, Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, Southern California. Another super bloom is expected this spring because of abundant winter rainfall.

Desert Abundance

Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, Southern California.
In a desert place
a twisted, broken willow
murmurs to the stars.
~~~ ~~~ ~~~
The desert’s abundance may not be in fruit,
But rather in clouds or in owls that can hoot,
Or maybe in rattlers that slither and slide,
Or in the great thermals on which the hawks glide.
The stones are abundant, and so is the sand
Wherever you look in a dry, barren land.
It’s not as though nothing filled up the spaces
In the world’s wild and desolate places!
Mist
Mist on the mountain—
a blackbird seeking its nest
starts to go astray.
How
Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, Southern California.
How many mountains
does it take to keep a cloud
from falling to earth?
