a cleft in the wall—
the smoke from midday cookfires

Donnie Wants to Build a Wall
Donnie wants to build a wall,
Build it long and build it tall,
Tall enough to keep you out,
Keep you from your walkabout.
Doesn’t matter who you are,
If you come from lands afar,
Donnie thinks a wall will do
For the very likes of you.
Donnie does not like brown skin.
Donnie likes his women thin.
Donnie and his ilk all hate
Those who breathe and celebrate
Liberty and happiness—
O my god, it’s such a mess!
Will this nightmare never end?
Donnie J, you’re no one’s friend!

even the old paint
is weeping
