Saguaro flowers

DSC_0387
Saguaro cactus blossoms, Yuma Conservation Garden, Yuma, Arizona

Saguaro flowers glowing
Against the bright blue sky
Fill me with greatest pleasure,
And here’s the reason why:

I think there’s nothing finer
Than seeing a white bloom
Juxtaposed against the sky
To chase away my gloom.

Desolate places—
something akin to wisdom
lingers in the stones.

News in cactus land

What’s the news in cactus land?
What’s the TV say?
Is there any hope that rain
Will settle dust today?

Maybe someone has a tip
I can take to heart.
Wait! There’s always NPR—
I’ve heard folks there are smart!

Yellow butterfly,
does the white blossom please you?
Will you settle there?

Blooms

Only in the desert sands
Do cacti thrive and bloom,
Not on crowded city streets
Where there’s no breathing room.

If you find a place of sand,
Where human prints are few,
There the lowly cactus waits
To show its blooms to you.

Whenever rivers flow clear,
Fish can breathe and thrive;
But in polluted waters,
You won’t find fish alive.

Do fishes have faith?
Or how about palms?
Only the faithful
Live life without qualms.
