The Blue-Handled Broom

Photobucket

The blue-handled broom,
weary from too much sweeping,
sags in the corner.

Haiku Wednesday: Travel

Emily’s frigate’s*
sailing today to places
an ocean away.

Faraway places—
sometimes you get there by boat
and sometimes by book.

*Here’s Emily Dickinson’s poem about boats and books:

There is no Frigate like a Book
To take us Lands away,
Nor any Coursers like a Page
Of prancing Poetry –
This Traverse may the poorest take
Without oppress of Toll –
How frugal is the Chariot
That bears a Human soul.
