Shopper’s Prayer

Mercado Virgin
La Virgen de Guadalupe presides over the Mercado Municipal, Morelia, Michoacán, México.

In the shopping storm,
Lady of the Marketplace,
keep us safe from harm.

Homeward

Morelia.June.2012 047
A father steadies his skating daughter in Morelia, Mexico.

Warm spring afternoon—
a father and his daughter
take the long way home.

Empty

Mercado
Mercado San Juan, Morelia, Michoacán, México

Looking for a basket,
I found one just for me,
A little white and blue one
As pretty as could be.
But when I went to buy it,
Someone called my name,
So I left the marketplace
As empty as I came.

Strands

Razor wire
A forbidding fence, Morelia, Michoacán, México

Slicing through the blue,
strands of concertina wire
keep all thieves at bay.

Keeper of the Door

Virgin of the Household
Virgin guarding a doorway, Morelia, Michoacán, México

For a day in thy courts is better than a thousand. I had rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God, than to dwell in the tents of wickedness.
Psalm 84:10, King James Version

Keeper of the door,
never sleeping day or night,
bless all those within.
