Voices

original

sweet voices
she craves the honey
on their tongues

~~ ~~ ~~

foul voices
putrid with hatred
poison her

~~ ~~ ~~

dark voices
hearing twisted words
she shudders

Love the Wind

shw3.a

Wake up! Love the wind!
It has not come to harm you,
but to show the way.

~~ ~~ ~~

Wake up! Love the wind!
Those who have gone before you
follow in its wake.

~~ ~~ ~~

Wake up! Love the wind!
It has brought you to this place
and will give you roots.

To Wake Up and Love

original

To wake up and love
when destruction stalks the land—
this is your calling.

~~ ~~ ~~

To wake up and love
is to endure suffering—
child, it is the way.

~~ ~~ ~~

To wake up and love
when all the world is sleeping—
you can do this. Trust.

She Colors Her Page

original

She colors her page,
hoping to bask in the glow
of a thousand suns.

~~ ~~ ~~

She colors her page
with shades of sorrow and grief—
all her foes rejoice.

~~ ~~ ~~

She colors her page,
not daring to raise her head
and arch toward the light.

Alone

original

They left her alone
to argue with the four winds—
her petulant tongue.

~~ ~~ ~~

They left her alone
to lick her wounds and ponder
an avenging move.

~~ ~~ ~~

They left her alone,
but saw her squint at the sun
as though she could see.

~~ ~~ ~~

They left her alone,
her mind no longer active—
a wilting iris.

~~ ~~ ~~

They left her alone,
her body a wizened shell
dissolving to dust.

These Are the Women

original

These are the women
careful to salt the oceans
with their fearsome tears.

~~ ~~ ~~

These are the women
who hug men and galaxies
with ferocity.

~~ ~~ ~~

These are the women
who marvel at each mistake,
their stumbling a gift.

Whole Again

original

She is whole again,
the brutal disease vanquished—
no more feasts of tears.

~~ ~~ ~~

She is whole again,
no longer having to grope
her way through darkness.

~~ ~~ ~~

She is whole again—
the transfer from death to life
water in her cup.

Ragged Flute Player

original

Ragged flute player,
if I douse your doleful notes,
will you seek revenge?

~~ ~~ ~~

Ragged flute player,
as you pipe your naughty notes,
monks begin to dance.

~~ ~~ ~~

Ragged flute player,
did you summon the pale horse
and its pale rider?

Imagine a fence
in the middle of nowhere,
keeping out nothing.
