Six Takes on ‘News’

naked in the grass
we lay until the news came—
runaway blue kite

~~~ ~~~ ~~~
I’ve known no sorrow
worthy of being printed
in the morning news.
~~~ ~~~ ~~~

sweetening the air
news of the old man’s demise
no more cruelties

~~~ ~~~ ~~~
the end of winter—
good news to eager sowers
waiting with fresh seeds
~~~ ~~~ ~~~

Even the roadblocks
can’t keep news from travelling
village to village.

~~~ ~~~ ~~~
In moments like these
no one cares about the news—
a fresh grizzly track.
Tortured Landscape
Take 2
This tortured landscape—
stealthy blooms and stippled fruit—
who could wish for more?
I Kneel in Wonder
Alpine flowers
I kneel in wonder,
spellbound, as spring calls forth life
even from cold stone.
Even Barbed Fences
Even barbed fences
cannot stop the transition
from darkness to light.
Here today and gone,
the poppies lack endurance—
fleeting flecks of light.
Feathered Sky
If you were erased,
the fence would have no shelter,
feathered sky of blue.
Brushing the Sky
Feather in the Fence
Feather in the fence—
someone must have stolen it,
for crow was asking.
