Oceans of sand

Oceans and oceans of sand
As far as the eye can see!
Oceans and oceans of sand
From here to eternity!

Can you see the waves billow,
And can you hear the waves roar?
Oceans and oceans of sand,
Far from the watery shore!

Countless

Countless grains of desert sand
Shifted in the wind last night.
More grains than you or I could tell
Shifted left, and shifted right.

Another windstorm’s coming,
Promising to blow and blow
Until those countless grains of sand
Find another place to go!

Blossoming

Moonrise at Imperial Sand Dunes Recreation Area, Southern California

Yosa Buson’s haiku about pear blossoms and moonlight inspires me to write a new haiku:

White blossoms of the pear
and a woman in moonlight
reading a letter.

~~ ~~ ~~

the moon blossoming
just enough for a woman
to write love letters
