Haiku and Senryu by the Dozen

Without a teacher,
how will you use a fulcrum
to your advantage?

There is no reason
to be smug this morning, love—
it took both of us.

Dense with leaves and fruit,
the apple trees will shudder
when the pickers come.

The cat dips one paw
into a pool of sunshine
on the kitchen floor.

red pencil whispers
a subliminal message—
old poet writing

When the bag lady
starts spinning in a circle,
you know she’s upset.

At the wayside shrine
three gullible young women
genuflect in fear.

Will she ever rush
to write everything she knows
on cheap brown paper?

on the long journey
a soft rustle behind me—
spirit has returned

Some may celebrate
seasons of untidy rooms—
would you, if you could?

Young apprentices,
your ruddy good looks are art
not of your making.

mellow are the moans
of lovers in the meadow
summer afternoons
