No Idea
She had no idea
that merely sitting
with a book in her hands
on the bench
outside the shop
where records were sold
would be her invitation
to go elsewhere
along a way that she could
neither walk nor run—
as if she were a letter
dropped in a mailbox
sorted by a hundred hands
until at last she
reached her destination
slipped through a narrow
slot in her
lover’s front door, and
announced her presence.

Powerful write!
I love this one. The magic of a book is a wondrous thing.
It surely is! As Emily Dickinson wrote so long ago: “There is no frigate like a book to take us lands away…”

Indeed! I enjoyed this! I hope you are enjoying your respite!
Intriguing write … one never knows where a book will lead one.
This is a cool perspective! Original!
I also really loved the visions this conjured for me as books have always been transforming!
“as if she were a letter….sorted by a hundred hands until at last she reached her destination”—I love this imagery. Very vivid and emotionally evocative.
very much visual…a lovely poem…
This is powerful.. a book is the best way to travel.. Imagination is everything I think.

Book – they can make us do many do and go to different places.. Nice one
Loved this. Slipping through the letter slot in the door is a nice touch. Very creative.
