Old Man

original

The old man’s blunder:
thinking that the early rice
would be abundant.

~~ ~~ ~~

a browning paddy
early rice plants withering—
see the old man cringe

~~ ~~ ~~

Choosing to digress
from discussing early rice,
the old man yammers.

  1. such dark haikus today. It’s terrible that people should go hungry because their crops fail

  2. Most excellent, and the last quite funny.

  3. after all that adversity, the old one seems to shrug and say, ‘oh well’

  4. Poor old man. He’s having quite a time with his rice crop.

  5. The last one more positive. Love it.

  6. Sadly when he yammers he doesn’t want talk of the crop. He has lost that and doesn’t want to lose face as well. I like the way the haiku strung together.

  7. A tough week for the old men of the world. 😦

  8. It’s not easy being a rice farmer, I guess!

    Cooking Early Rice

  9. Such a clever play of the words …. haikus so expressive and narrating such a tale
