River

Animas River, Aztec, New Mexico

midsummer morning
the river unraveling
on its seaward way

~~ ~~ ~~

Rampant grow the tales
whispered by the willow trees
at the river’s edge.

~~ ~~ ~~

echoes of a crow
still menacing the river
ninety yards downstream

  1. I love to sit on a riverbank. The sounds, the smells -well, not always the smells!

    Rosey Pinkerton’s blog

  2. Lovely feel to these and I can feel myself by the riverbank telling that crow a thing or two. That photo could be right by my mom’s house! Nice!

  3. you paint such a lovely picture

  4. I befriended a crow once and I can tell you they have a lot to crow about. I quite like the way that willows let their leaves touch the water like shy maidens.

  5. Willow trees are terrible gossips….!

  6. The river meanders through good or bad terrain as it finds its own level! Willows lend a helping hand of support perhaps!
