No Clue

Just what can a blue lion do?
To tell you the truth, I’ve no clue.
I’ve never seen one,
Nor has my young son,
Who knows every beast in the zoo.

What If the Panda

What if the panda on Main Street
Suddenly gave up its heartbeat?
The beast would be dead,
And lay down its head,
And no longer rise to its feet.

Good Sign

DSC_0115 (3)

Summer dawn in the Sonoran Desert, Southern Arizona.

Is your world better than mine?
I find the desert divine!
Although it is sere,
And not much is here,
I take that as a good sign!

Beautiful Place

The world is a beautiful place
For every creed, color and race;
There’s room for us all,
The great and the small—
No need to seek more room in space.

Blue Monday: No Geese in the Sky

DSC_0238
Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, Southern California.

There aren’t any geese in the sky,
There’s only a cloud flying by—
A beautiful day
To work or to play
Or maybe to get some shuteye!

Amiss

DSC_0534 (1)
Flags of three nations—Japan, Mexico, and the United States—fly in Historic Downtown Yuma, Arizona.

A national flag flying free
Should symbolize great harmony,
But when people scorn
The land where they’re born,
Something’s amiss, don’t you see?

Blue Monday: Meeting Place

Mission San Xavier del Bac 202
Mission San Xavier del Bac, Tucson, Arizona.

Here heaven and earth seem to meet,
Although it’s not near any street,
But out in the wild
Where even a child
Can sniff at the air and say, “Sweet!”

Magical

A poem’s a magical thing;
To feelings and thoughts it gives wing.
And if you’ve no song,
You’ll find it’s not long
Till your empty tongue starts to sing.

Blue Monday: Wind Turbines

Version 2
Wind turbines generate electricity on the outskirts of Ocotillo, California.

The turbines go round and around,
And yet they make scarcely a sound.
The power that’s made
Comes from a long blade,
Propelled by the wind that’s westbound.

Blue Monday: Shabby Sign

DSC_0510
A shabby but still legible sign in Historic Downtown Yuma, Arizona

The sign may be shabby and battered,
It’s edges may even be tattered.
Yet one thing is clear:
Old Yuma’s still here—
A message that always has mattered.
