Blue Monday: Long Tail

Version 2
Artwork on a wall, Ajo, Arizona.

A beast with an extra-long tail
Hung out on a wall near a nail.
He started to slip,
But reached out to grip
The thing that stuck out: the sharp nail.

Me, Myself and I

To think of myself’s not a chore;
I’m neither a prude nor a boor.
I haven’t a clue
What I think of you,
But of me I want to know more!

Blue Monday: Blue Pants

IMG_8451
Detail from a mural, Dayton, Washington.

The man in blue pants bends his knees,
But knows that he doesn’t dare sneeze;
A mighty achoo
Would surely not do—
He’d probably lose all his keys!

Imagine

A pathway in suburban Riverside County, California.

A path of mere human invention
May somehow defy all convention.
Imagine the creechas,
Mice, spydas, and leeches,
That follow the path with intention!

Whose Back?

RanchoLosAlamitos036
The base of a sundial at Rancho Los Alamitos, Long Beach, California

Whose back does the earth ride upon?
An elephant, raven, or swan?
Perhaps it’s a gannet
That holds up the planet
That all of us humans live on!

Blue Monday: Lost Comb

IMG_8014
Someone lost a comb in Historic Downtown Yuma, Arizona

If you lose your comb in the street,
Expect the coiffed people you meet
To stare at your pate
And then start to prate
About your mussed hair, not your feet!

Blue Monday: Gecko

IMG_7927
A decorative gecko clings to a tree.

The blue-footed gecko is back
To keep us all on the right track.
His tongue points the way
By night and by day—
For mapping he has quite a knack.

Blue Monday: Eggs in Her Basket

IMG_7674
A holiday decoration in a Yuma County, Arizona church

A womanly snowman in blue
Puts eggs in her basket—not two,
But three, which is odd,
For she’s a tightwad
And rarely gives extra to you.

Awesome

The rose’s beautiful blossom
Is never known to play possum;
It’s bright and it’s bold,
A sight to behold—
Some even say that it’s awesome!

Blue Monday: Wise Woman

IMG_5346
Mural in Artists Alley, Ajo, Arizona

A wise woman watched from the wall
To see who would stumble and fall.
She offered them truth,
But no one, forsooth,
Accepted her offer at all.
